Experience shows that the direct cost of QS implementation is about 1% of turnover. Such costs, like any other infrastructural upgrading, should anyway be treated as a Capital Cost (not a running cost) with its depreciation spread over a number of years. The cost burden can thus be significantly reduced and will anyway be absorbed by an almost immediate increase in company profitability.

As such, Quality Systems (QS) are the foundation on which recovery plans / business plans should be built, offering users their best chance of success.

 

QUALITY SYSTEMS PAY

 

In aviation, as in any industry, when in financial trouble, there is a tendency for companies to put improvement plans to one side "until we are over this bad patch". Similarly in new-start airlines quality system implementation is usually only a consideration "once we are up and running”. Wrong………!

 

This clearly need not be the case for, as demonstrated below, quality is the optimum tool for recovery of a run-down business and for success in a new-start. As such, it is the foundation of a business not a refinement.
